Beyond The Bricks with Nevena Vidic of Legacy Partners Residential
How did you get interested in real estate? Did you know you wanted to pursue this path while in college?
I had no clue that I wanted to work in real estate until after college. I majored in Civil Engineering and Construction Management and worked as an engineer for about a year before I got bored and took off to travel around Europe. During my travels, I decided that I wanted to spend some time living in my home country, Serbia. I landed an internship as a land broker with Colliers International, not my ultimate career path, but I fell in love with the “big picture” of working in the real estate industry
How has ULI/YLG been helpful in your career?
Being a part of the YLG has afforded me the opportunity to get to know a great group of career minded professionals from a diverse spectrum of the real estate industry.
Through my involvement, I get to have a real time overview of what is going on in other companies and related sectors of the industry. One thing that has been especially beneficial for me during these first years of my career is the many educational and professional development opportunities that ULI and the YLG provide. I especially enjoy the Peer 2 Peer workshops, the behind the scenes tours of deals through the Deal Crawl and Kickin’ the Bricks, and access to the wisdom of top real estate executives through Learn From the Best and Fireside Chats. I am also looking forward to learning and meeting the real estate professionals from around the country at the Fall Meeting next month.
How will the Fall Meeting be useful to YLGers?
Given that thousands of people from around the country will be attending, the Fall Meeting is a fantastic opportunity for YLGers to network with professionals in the real estate industry. It is an opportunity to get firsthand accounts of what happening throughout the industry right now and hear forecasts from some of the country's top real estate executives. This is especially important in the turbulent times we are experiencing.
What is the best way for a YLGer to maximize their experience at the Fall Meeting?
Go to as many of the educational workshops and panels as time allows. Attend networking events - especially the YLG Networking Reception (held the evening of Thursday, November 5th). This event will be attended by hundreds of YLGers from around the country and is a great opportunity to meet and socialize with your peers in the industry.
