Student Simulations
Over the course of three weeks, student teams respond to a request for proposal for the redevelopment of a blighted neighborhood in a hypothetical community. Each team member assumes one of five roles: finance director, marketing director, city liaison, neighborhood liaison, or site planner. Through these roles, students develop a tangible understanding of the various stakeholders in the development process and the challenge of reconciling competing agendas to create a well-designed, sustainable project. Teams must address financial, social, political, and design issues as they develop a pro-forma and three-dimensional model of their plan. The program concludes with a presentation to a "City Council" made up of ULI members, which awards the development contract to the winning team.
